Chi Ling Dai Cheng was born in Stockton, California in 1970.
Chi was known for being the bassist in the Alternative metal band Deftones.
Chi began playing with Deftones while attending California State University in Sacramento, California.
Along with performing music, Chi was also a poet. He released a spoken word album of poetry titled "The Bamboo Parachute" in 2000.
In November of 2008 Chi was involved in a serious autmobile accident in which he was ejected from the car as a result of not wearing a seatbelt.
Chi never fully recovered from the brain trauma he suffered from the automobile accident. On April 13, 2013, Chi fell into cardiac arrest and died the next day.
